With our Student Plan, students studying out of province or abroad can find comfort knowing they’ve got emergency medical coverage for things like hospitalizations or mental health services if ever they’re in need. We even have Sports Participation Coverage for post-secondary athletes while they’re in school.

Because we know you need coverage that fits with your schoolyear, we let you choose your length of coverage – anywhere between four or 12 months. The plan is also available in single, couple or family rates and provides emergency medical coverage up to $2 million along with 17 comprehensive benefits including:

- Virtual Health Consultations are available depending on destination and type of medical emergency

Hospitalization Covers hospital room and board charges, up to semi-private, and charges for intensive and coronary care
Medical Services Covers the cost of treatment by a physician or surgeon
Diagnostic Services Covers the cost of x-rays and other diagnostic tests
Out-patient Treatment Covers the cost of out-patient emergency room charges
Prescription Drugs Covers the cost of prescription drugs and medication prescribed in an emergency situation up to $1,000
Road Ambulance Covers the cost for use of a licensed road ambulance in an emergency situation
Air Ambulance Covers the cost for the use an air ambulance or regularly scheduled airline to transport you back to your province of residence
Special Attendant Reimbursement for the cost of one, return-trip airfare for a medical attendant to accompany you back to your province of residence
Return of Family Member Reimbursement for the cost of one, one-way economy class airfare for an accompanying family member to return to your departure point.
Paramedical Services Covers the cost for the use of an osteopath, physiotherapist, chiropractor, chiropodist, and/or podiatrist
Health Practitioners Covers the cost for the services of a registered mental health professional ($300 maximum per person per year)
Accidental Dental Covers the cost of repair or replacement of natural teeth or permanently attached artificial teeth or the relief of dental pain
Return of Remains Covers the cost of preparation and transportation to the country of origin, or the cost of cremation or burial at the place of death
Family to Bedside Reimbursement for the cost of one airfare for a family member to accompany you at your bedside
Coverage Continuation If hospitalized and your plan expires, your coverage continues until seventy-two (72) hours after discharge from hospital
Out-of-Pocket Expenses Covers accommodations, meals, phone calls and taxi or bus fares incurred by an accompanying family member in the event hospitalization continues after the policy expiry date.
24-Hour Travel Assistance Services Coordination of all medical care, transportation, and repatriation; telephone interpretation services in most languages; monitoring of progress during treatment and recovery by managed care
Sports Participation (extra coverage for Student Athletes)
Choose this for students playing official university sports teams; it includes coverage for medical expenses that are a result of participation in their sport.
GMS will pay reasonable and customary charges in excess of coverage from other insurance plans for eligible expenses that result from an accidental injury while playing a sport on a scholarship or waiver of entrance fees.

FAQ
No. Due to the Global Travel Advisory issued by the Canadian Government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re unable to provide coverage for claims outside of Canada. As a result, we’ve suspended sales of StudentPlan until further notice.
Yes. You have coverage, according to the terms and conditions of your policy, until the expiry date of your plan.
As of November 12, 2020, you will have coverage up to $500,000 for medical expenses related to a positive diagnosis of COVID-19 included in your policy maximum of $2,000,000.
Please note because we’re not selling StudentPlan at the moment, we’re unable to extend you coverage beyond your expiry date.
Yes. As long as you’re returning to your province of residence and haven’t made any claims under your plan. No refunds are issued for partial months. To receive your early return refund please email proof of your return (i.e. plane ticket, gas receipt, passport stamp) to us at info@gms.ca
