Visitors to Canada Emergency Medical Insurance
The Destination: Canada Visitors to Canada Plan provides emergency medical insurance for Visitors to Canada, Super Visa applicants, newly landed immigrants or returning Canadian citizens. This Summary of Benefits merely provides you with an overview of the Benefits provided. This insurance is designed to cover losses arising from sudden and unforeseeable circumstances. It is very important that you read and understand the terms of your policy as the coverage contains provisions relating to eligibility, pre-existing conditions, limitations and exclusions.
Summary of Benefits
Maximum Sum Insured Options $10,000 – $25,000 – $50,000 – $100,000 – $150,000 or $300,000
Emergency Hospital Semi-private hospital accommodation
Emergency Medical
- Services of physician, surgeon, anesthetist
- Diagnostics, lab tests and/or x-rays
- Licensed local air, land and/or sea ambulance to the nearest hospital
- Private duty services of a registered graduate nurse up to $10,000
- Rental of medical appliances
Drugs or Medications Up to $1,000 not exceeding 30-day supply
Professional Services Physiotherapist, chiropractor, chiropodist, osteopath, podiatrist when ordered by the attending physician up to $500 per practitioner for out-patient treatment
Emergency Air Transportation / Return home When pre-approved by Active Care Management
Transportation of Family Up to $3,000 to transport one family member or close friend and up to $1,000 for meals and accommodation

Follow-up Visits Up to $3,000 for follow-up when pre-approved by Active Care management
Accidental Dental Up to $3,000 for emergency treatment caused by an accidental blow to the face
Dental Emergencies Up to $500 for the immediate relief of acute dental pain
Meals and Accommodation Up to $150 per day to a maximum of $1,500 when hospitalized
Emergency Return Home Up to $3,000 for the additional cost of one-way economy transportation
Return of Deceased Up to $10,000 for return of remains or up to $4,000 for cremation or burial at place of death
Accidental Death & Dismemberment Up to the maximum sum insured not to exceed $150,000 for loss of life, limb or sight resulting from an accidental injury
Flight Accident Up to a maximum sum insured of $50,000
Pre-existing medical conditions
Age 0 to 79:
Option 1: Covered only if stable during the 120 days prior to the effective date
Option 2: All pre-existing conditions will be excluded from coverage
Age 80 and over – all pre-existing conditions are excluded from coverage

Your policy contains certain limitations and exclusions. Please refer to policy wording for a complete list of the limitations and exclusions
Deductible Options
Age up to 85 / $0 deductible (deductible options are available)
Age 86 and over / $500 deductible
Waiting Period
Age 0 to 85
- If the insurance was purchased prior to your arrival date in Canada, the “waiting period” does not apply or,
- If this insurance is purchased any time after your arrival in Canada, then in respect of any sickness you will only be entitled to receive benefits for the cost of eligible medical expenses incurred after the first 48 hours from the effective date of the policy.
Age 86 and over
- If the insurance was purchased prior to arrival date in Canada, the “waiting period” does not apply.
- If the insurance is purchased after your arrival date in Canada, then in respect of any sickness you will only be entitled to receive benefits for the cost of eligible medical expenses incurred after fifteen (15) days from the effective date of this policy.
The waiting period may be waived if:
- This policy is purchased on or prior to the expiry date of an existing Destination: Canada policy.
- If you have insurance with another insurer during the first part of your trip in Canada, and you are purchasing this insurance after your arrival in Canada and there will be no gap in coverage. You must provide satisfactory proof that you have other coverage in force and receive a written approval from the Insurer.
ELIGIBILITY
Coverage is NOT AVAILABLE to any individual who:
- a) has been diagnosed with a terminal illness; or
- b) has Acquired Immune Defciency Syndrome (AIDS) or Human Immunodefciency Virus (HIV); or
- c) has been prescribed or used home oxygen treatment in the last 12 months; or
- d) has been diagnosed with or treated for congestive heart failure; or
- e) has had a major organ transplant (heart, kidney, liver, lung); or
- f) has received kidney dialysis treatment in the last 12 months
